New York Jets Smack Talk: Team Tim Tebow Vs. Team Mark Sanchez

New York Jets fans are waiting for the drama to end. But it’s only beginning to building.

Backup quarterback Tim Tebow remains a member of the Jets despite the expectations that he will either be traded or released in the next few weeks.

"He's a New York Jet," John Idzik, the new New York Jets general manager, told the Associated Press. "It shouldn't be surprising."

Tebow, who reported for voluntary workouts Monday, has generally not been mentioned as part of the Jets' quarterback competition that will include Mark Sanchez, David Garrard and Greg McElroy.

"I'm not saying he is, and I'm not saying he isn't," Idzik said. "I'm just saying let's let things play out."

It surely is a continuing soap opera for the New York Jets that now includes members of Sanchez and Tebow’s camps.

Last week, former NFL Pro Bowl quarterback Jeff Garcia, who is instructing Sanchez on the West Coast offense, told USA Today that "having Tebow there [last season] just became a distraction, more of a circus show.”

Garcia felt that the Jet’s not trading or releasing Tebow was a distraction to Sanchez and his real competition, Garrard and McElroy.

“If there's going to be competition at the quarterback position, it's not going to come from Tim Tebow,” Garcia said.

Meanwhile, Tebow’s instructor Steve Clarkson, a private coach who has worked with other NFL quarterbacks has decided to give you his opinion on Sanchez and a conspiracy on why the Broncos traded him to the Jets.

“I think he was purposefully sent to New York. From the standpoint: you send him to a situation where you have instability with your coach -- you don't know if he's coming or going. You have a fragile-minded Mark Sanchez at quarterback. You stick Tim Tebow in there and you kill two birds with one stone,” Clarkson told ESPNNewYork.com, implying that the Broncos intended to ruin the Jets and the Tebow phenomenon.

A conspiracy theory ESPN and others discredit as it’s been documented Tebow chose New York over the Jacksonville Jaguars as the team to be traded to.

Meanwhile both quarterbacks are still electing to stay quiet and focus on the task at hand, but one can only wonder if their coaches are being influenced to talk by their very own pupils.
