The Toronto Blue Jays placed shortstop Jose Reyes on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained left ankle.

Reyes, who was acquired from the Miami Marlins in a blockbuster trade this past offseason, was injured sliding into second base in Friday's win over the Kansas City Royals.

Reyes' ankle rolled beneath him as he slid over the bag. Reyes remained of the field for several minutes before he was carted off the field.

The 11-year veteran underwent an MRI on Saturday, but results were not immediately released. He could be out for three months.

Over 10 games this season, the 29-year-old was batting .395 with one homer five RBI and five steals.

"Don't worry, I will be back on the field soon!" Reyes wrote on Twitter Saturday.

The Blue Jays selected the contract of shortstop Munenori Kawasaki from Triple-A Buffalo to replace Reyes on the active roster.
