Ex-Houston coach James Dickey joins Oklahoma State staff as assistant

Oklahoma State announced Wednesday that it has hired former Houston coach James Dickey as an assistant.

Dickey coached at Houston the past four years before resigning because of a family matter. The Cougars went 17-16 last season with an 8-10 record in the American Athletic Conference. He led the Cougars to a 20-13 record and a CBI bid the previous season.

Dickey was an assistant at Oklahoma State from 2002-08 and helped develop future NBA players Tony Allen, Joey Graham, Stephen Graham, John Lucas and Ivan McFarlin. Before that, he spent 10 seasons as head coach at Texas Tech. In 1995-96, the Red Raiders won a school-record 30 games, including an 18-0 mark in the Southwest Conference, and reached the Sweet 16 for the first time in school history.
