Since being selected in the second round of the 2012 NFL Draft, Isaiah Pead has yet to live up to any expectations.

He's logged just 17 carries for 75 yards in limited playing time over two seasons, and missed all of 2014 with a torn ACL.

Entering 2015, it may be the right place, right time for the former Cincinnati standout.

Pead got his chance to play in the Rams final preseason game with presumed Week 1 starter Benny Cunningham resting (Todd Gurley is out and Tre Mason is nursing a hamstring injury) and delivered 12 carries for 52 yards.

"Each week he's getting better," head coach Jeff Fisher said, via the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "He's dropped the (knee) brace, which is a huge thing psychologically for him. Each week he's getting better, so it's great effort on his behalf to get to this point."

With Gurley still recovering from ACL surgery and Mason's return in question, Pead could wind up as the No. 2 back entering the regular-season opener.

And he may have the opportunity to show why the Rams invested in him back in 2012.
