Three of the fastest Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series cars in practice and qualifying on Friday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway will be penalized today for violations caught during pre-qualifying inspection.
Erik Jones, who qualified eighth-fastest, was hit the hardest after he failed the weights and measures station three times. As a result, he will lose 15 minutes of Saturday practice time and his pit selection for Sunday's Kobalt 400 at the 1.5-mile track.
Martin Truex Jr., who was second-fastest in qualifying and will start on the front row alongside pole-winner Brad Keselowski for Sunday's race, failed the template station twice along with Kasey Kahne, who was seventh-fastest in qualifying. Both will lose 15 minutes of Saturday practice time as a result.
None of the drivers and their teams will suffer any additional penalties because of Friday's problems.
