They sit on two points and trail Denmark by two going into their final match Wednesday. Only a win against the group leaders will guarantee them a spot in the knockout stage, while a draw could be enough only if Iraq and South Africa settle for a lower-scoring draw. If both games end in 0-0 ties, a drawing of lots would determine who goes through between Brazil and Iraq, as both teams would have three points and no goals scored.
A loss, meanwhile, would seal the Selecao's exit and probably cause a nationwide meltdown. Given that Brazil prioritized winning their first Olympic gold over the Copa America Centenario this summer, a group-stage exit might be more embarrassing than the infamous 1-7 against Germany two years ago. Because at least Brazil was in a semifinal then, and they didn't have Neymar.
Not making it out of a group with Iraq, South Africa and Denmark, with Neymar, in Brazil, at your home Olympics? Yeah, that might be worse.
