TORONTO (AP) Blue Jays slugger Edwin Encarnacion has dropped his appeal of a one-game suspension for making contact with umpire Vic Carapazza and will sit out Toronto's final game before the All-Star break, Sunday against Detroit.

An All-Star for the third time this season, Encarnacion is hitting .267 with a team-high 23 home runs. He leads the majors with 80 RBIs.

He was suspended for bumping Carapazza's shoulder after being ejected after the first inning in Toronto's 19-inning loss to Cleveland on July 1. Encarnacion was upset for being called out on strikes to end the inning, the third Blue Jays batter of the inning to strike out looking.

Manager John Gibbons came out to break up the argument and was also ejected.

Later in the game, Carapazza ejected Toronto catcher Russell Martin for arguing balls and strikes. An irate Martin had to be restrained by two coaches. Martin was not suspended.
