Former interim welterweight champion Carlos Condit will make his return to action at UFC 202 when he faces submission specialist Demian Maia on August 20 in Las Vegas.

UFC officials confirmed the new matchup on Tuesday via the Albuquerque Journal.

Albuquerque native Condit first hinted that he had booked a fight on Monday. This, after questioning whether or not he was going to return to the sport following a very close, controversial decision loss to current welterweight champion Robbie Lawler back in January.

The 32-year-old former interim welterweight champion had said just recently that only a couple of fights would interest him enough to return to the Octagon this year, and it seems Maia was on that list.

The 38-year-old Maia is coming off five wins in a row, including a submission victory over Matt Brown in his last fight at UFC 198.

The Brazilian has been incredibly impressive over his recent win streak, taking out a number of top fighters, including Neil Magny and fellow grappling expert Gunnar Nelson.

Now Maia will attempt to secure a title shot when he faces Condit on Aug. 20.

Condit vs. Maia joins a growing UFC 202 card headlined by Conor McGregor's rematch against Nate Diaz in the five-round main event.
