NEW YORK (AP) Herb Magee, who has won more than 1,000 games at Philadelphia University, and Marianne Stanley, who led Old Dominion women's teams to three national championships, have won the Lapchick Character Award.

They will be honored Nov. 18 at a luncheon in New York celebrating the life of Joe Lapchick, a Hall of Fame coach with St. John's and the New York Knicks, who was known for his compassion and integrity off the court.

Magee has been involved with the Philadelphia program for 57 years as a player and coach. He enters his 50th season with the Rams with 1,032 wins.

Stanley won three AIAW titles as a player at Immaculata from 1972-74. She won another two as coach at Old Dominion as well as an NCAA title.

The late John Bach, who is credited with helping the Chicago Bulls to three NBA titles, also will be honored. Bach, who passed away in January 91, played and coached at Fordham and was part of the Bulls' dynasty.
