There's no better way to celebrate an ACC Championship than a surprise proposal. At least that's how former Virginia football player John Pond sees it. He got down on one knee to propose to girlfriend Lauren Coughlin after Coughlin birdied the final hole to win the ACC title on Sunday.

The Cavaliers topped Wake Forest to earn their second consecutive league championship, and Coughlin, a senior, earned the individual title by finishing 9-under 207. Pond graduated UVA last year and played center for the Cavs' football team from 2012-2015.

According to The Roanoke Times, Pond decided to propose immediately after the championship thanks to Coughlin's clutch performance.

"He told me that he wouldn't have done it if I had lost it in playoff or lost it on the last hole," Coughlin told the Times. "If I had finished third or fourth, he was still going to do it, just not right then. I still would have gotten the proposal."

Pond was not the only college football player to propose over the weekend. Louisiana State University center Andy Dodd proposed to girlfriend Ralynn O'Brien on the field after the Tigers' spring game on Saturday.

It seems young love is in the air this spring.
