Texas A&M head coach Kevin Sumlin officially announced Monday that Oklahoma transfer Trevor Knight will be the Aggies starting quarterback this season.
"Trevor Knight will be our starter," Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin said in a team press release. "His on-field performance this spring along with his leadership earned him the starting job."
The announcement comes after Knight's impressive performance during Saturday's spring game. The senior transfer student beat out junior quarterback Jake Hubenak for the job.
Knight stepped in as the Sooners' starting QB at the end of the 2013 season, and his incredible performance in the Sugar Bowl earned him the game's MVP honors. However, Knight wasn't as sharp in 2014, throwing for 2,300 yards, 14 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He ended up losing out on the starting gig to Baker Mayfield, prompting his decision to transfer to Texas A&M.
The Aggies, who finished with a record of 8-5 in 2015, will open up the 2016 season against UCLA at home on Sept. 3.
