Brewers have two major positions to address this offseason

The Milwaukee Brewers are at the onset of a rebuilding project, but as they work on reassembling their organization, there are two main areas they'll need to address on their major-league squad this offseason.

After trading Aramis Ramirez and Carlos Gomez this past season, the Brewers have big holes to fill at third base and center field.

Milwaukee has a pair of infielders in Elian Herrera and Yadiel Rivera who can play third base, but neither possesses the kind of power that behooves the hot corner.

"Obviously, it's a position that we probably need to get more production out of going forward," general manager David Stearns said. "There's a chance those guys could take a step up in production, and we're certainly also going to look for external options."

The Brewers' options in center might also force them to seek an external solution to their void at the position.

Domingo Santana can play the position if necessary, but Milwaukee doesn't view him as a true center fielder.

"We gave him a shot in center field last year and I think he proved that he can do it if we need him to do it," said Stearns of Santana. "He is probably best suited for a corner, but he does provide us an option if we chose to go that way."

There are plenty of options within the Brewers' range on the free-agency market, including former Brewers Casey McGehee and Nori Aoki, that could fill their needs.

"These days can feel like Groundhog Day a little bit with the [GM] meetings going on and lots of conversations," Stearns said, "but nothing too exciting to report at this point."
