In a season after they lost 95 games, the Texas Rangers surprised everybody at the trade deadline, acquiring Cole Hamels from the Philadelphia Phillies.

Hamels performed well for the Rangers, pitching to a 7-1 record with a 3.66 ERA, including a complete game on Game 162 to clinch the AL West title.

Despite a disappointing end to the season, Hamels is excited for 2016 -- and beyond.

"I truly look forward to not only next season, but the next couple of years," Hamels said via Dallas News.

One of the main reasons Hamels is looking forward to playing for Texas is the "special" group in the clubhouse.

"You have guys who know how to play, and there is a relentlessness. They play through injuries. They fight through things. They don't stop. It's special, and it's also very rare."

Hamels is signed with Texas through 2018 with a team option for 2019.
