Shutdowns for everyone! OK, maybe not everyone, but we'll start today with Padres OF Matt Kemp, who is done for the season due to a "strained and partially torn tendon" in his right middle finger, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. Kemp had a solid fantasy campaign, batting .265 with 23 home runs, and posting his highest totals in RBI (100), runs (80) and stolen bases (12) since 2011. The numbers say Kemp's defense is horrible, but what do we care as fantasy owners? He'll be somewhere among the top 20-25 fantasy outfielders in 2016.
In other news ...
The Blue Jays and Cardinals clinched their divisions on Wednesday, so those in daily leagues will need to watch their lineups closely this weekend. The Jays have a 12:05 p.m. ET start today, and might rest plenty of players.
Red Sox OF Mookie Betts hit two homers on Wednesday. For the season, Betts is batting .294 with 18 homers, 76 RBI, 92 runs and 20 stolen bases. Is he a top-10 fantasy OF for 2016?
Mets OF Yoenis Cespedes got hit in the left hand by a pitch on Wednesday. X-rays were negative, and after sitting today, Cespedes will play at some point this weekend.
In other Mets' news, SP Steven Matz has been scratched today due to a back issue. Matz might be able to pitch this weekend if things improve quickly. Please note that today's Mets-Phillies game has been moved up to 12:05 in an effort to play before heavy rains arrive.
Freddie Freeman's injured right wrist will limit him to pinch-hitting duties for the rest of the season.
Indians OF Michael Brantley (shoulder) has been officially shut down.
With closer Brad Ziegler on paternity leave, Daniel Hudson got the D-backs' save on Wednesday. Ziegler is expected to rejoin the team on Friday.
OF Carlos Gomez (intercostal strain) was in the Astros' lineup on Wednesday for the first time since Sept. 12. Gomez played well, with two hits, a run scored and two stolen bases. With the Astros pushing for a wild-card spot, look for Gomez to play as long as he's able.
Mariners SP Felix Hernandez (elbow stiffness) won't pitch again this season.
Marcus Stroman threw eight innings of one-run ball to win his fourth consecutive start since returning from knee surgery. Stroman is a beast, a stud, a badass. He'll be fun to watch in the postseason, and should be viewed as a top-20 starter for 2016.
Mike Leake was really good as our Wednesday streaming starter, throwing a complete-game shutout. Today's pick is Minnesota's underrated Tyler Duffey (owned in 24.5 percent of FOXSports.com leagues) at Cleveland.
DFS advice (based on 50/50 games, night games only, salaries from DraftKings): I'll happily pay $11K for the red-hot Stephen Strasburg against the punchless Braves' lineup ... Duffey at $9,200 makes for an expensive SP2. I'm not sure if Red Sox lefty Rich Hill can post his fourth straight crazy-good start, but for $4,300 I'd like to find out ... Angels C Chris Iannetta ($2,900, .374 career wOBA vs. LHP) can save you a little cash ... D-backs 2B/3B Phil Gosselin ($2,800) is a decent play if he bats second in the order again. Gosselin has 34 DK points in his last four games ... Indians SS Francisco Lindor ($4,700) has six double-digit DK games over his last eight ... Marlins OF Marcell Ozuna ($3,100) is raking, with nine hits and 50 DK points over his last five games ... Stack your Nats - starting with Bryce Harper ($5,700) - against Braves' rookie Ryan Weber (5.91 ERA).
