Highly touted freshman defensive back J.W. Ketchum had yet to see action this season and now it appears he will not after being removed from the Baylor roster, according to coach Art Briles.
Ketchum violated unspecified team rules. He was jailed on Aug. 15 on a charge of possession of marijuana under 2 ounces, according to the Waco Tribune-Herald.
A source told the Tribune-Herald's John Werner that Ketchum is working on fulfilling some team requirements to be reinstated on the active roster. He's not participating in team practices, but is currently working with the strength and conditioning coaches.
He can still redshirt this season and maintain four years of eligibility.
Ketchum is the fourth player to face disciplinary action in the first month of the season. Defensive star Shawn Oakman and starting defensive back Orion Stewart were suspended for the first game of the season for unspecified team violations. Starting tight end Tre'Von Armstead was dismissed from the team for a violation of team rules.
Briles has also had to discipline three coaches on his staff, including offensive coordinator and son Kendal Briles for a recruiting violation.
