Student loans are absolutely crazy these days. It's one of the reasons why high school athletes work so hard at honing their craft, hoping so save their parents the burden of paying for college and earning a scholarship.

It's always fun to see an unlikely candidate earn a free ride, and Iowa State's Trever Ryen did just that.

As seems to be the trend in college athletics lately, head coach Paul Rhoads surprised Ryen with is scholarship in front of the entire team.

"I probably had the stupidest look on my face," Ryen said.

Rhoads disagrees.

"He was overwhelmed," Rhoads said. "He turned like your paper there. It was funny. He turned white."
