What a day of college football.
We entered the day looking to see whether Georgia Tech, USC, and Ole Miss were for real. By the end of the day we found out that only one of the three wasn't a pretender, congrats to the Ole Miss Rebels, Hugh Freeze officially owns Nick Saban.
As always, we rank teams entirely based on reults on the field, not what we expected to see from them.
So here we go:
1. Ole Miss
Here's the deal, when you dominate Alabama in Bryant-Denny Stadium, you've posted the best performance of the season so far in college football.
This win validates the Rebel domination over lesser foes in the first two weeks of the season.
The Rebels should be 7-0 when Texas A&M comes to Oxford. How huge will that game be?
Swag Kelly, indeed.
2. Texas A&M
After two straight easy wins, the Aggies will dive back into the SEC and take on Arkansas in Dallas next week. How much fun is that game at Ole Miss going to be for the Aggies? Holy hell, take the over.
3. Michigan State
The Spartans have the second best win of the college football season, a three point win over Oregon and look like the best team in the Big Ten right now.
4. Georgia
The Bulldogs may well have sent Steve Spurrier into retirement with an epic rivalry beatdown. That game on October 3rd between Alabama and Georgia now looks like an opportunity for Georgia to put a nail in the Bama season.
5. UCLA
The Bruins overcame a poor passing game from Josh Rosen to avoid both USC and UCLA losing as double digit favorites on the same night in Los Angeles.
UCLA looks to be the class of the Pac 12.
6. LSU
Leonard Fournette is the best player in college football. Just go ahead and give him the Heisman.
I'm still not sure LSU has a passing attack, but here's the deal, as long as Fournette is healthy, I'm not sure they need one.
7. Notre Dame
Props to the Fighting Irish for a dominating win over Georgia Tech. This gives the Irish three FBS wins to begin the season and, given how weak the ACC looks, is it really impossible for Notre Dame to go on the road and win at Clemson?
8. Oklahoma
Baker Mayfield was incredible and Oklahoma got up early and then held off Tulsa. So far the Sooners have the best resume in the Big 12, better than both Baylor and TCU.
9. Ohio State
The Buckeyes didn't look very good against Northern Illinois and were fortunate to get the win. Plus, the Buckeyes are beginning to look like a soap opera with their quarterback situation.
Fortunately for Ohio State they don't have a really tough opponent until November.
10. Oregon
I know, I know, the Ducks lost to Michgan State and aren't undefeated. But what team deserves to be here instead? Honestly, Northwestern is my 11th best team right now.
