FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) Dan Enos never defeated Toledo in his five seasons as the head coach at Central Michigan.
The first-year Arkansas offensive coordinator hopes for a change of fortune when the No. 18 Razorbacks (1-0) face the Rockets in Little Rock's War Memorial Stadium on Saturday.
Enos was 0-5 against Toledo in his five seasons in the Mid-American Conference, allowing an average of 43.2 points per game against the high-powered Rockets.
However, with a vastly upgraded talent pool at his disposal - including fifth-year starting quarterback Brandon Allen - Enos showed the type of impact Arkansas had hoped for in a season-opening 48-13 win over UTEP.
Allen threw for a career-best 308 yards and four touchdowns in the win, leading an offense that gained 490 yards overall in its first game with Enos calling the plays. It's an output the Razorbacks expect to repeat against Toledo, particularly with Enos' experience on their side.
''Certainly, having played them a few times, I've tried to be a resource for a little bit on both sides of the ball,'' Enos said. ''Just to tell them the little bit that I know, and hopefully it can give us some type of insight.''
Last week's win was Arkansas' fourth in its last five games, a far cry from the misfortunes Razorbacks coach Bret Bielema experienced during much of his first two seasons. Since ending a 17-game Southeastern Conference losing streak last season, Arkansas - which won only three games in Bielema's first season - has outscored its last five opponents by a total of 146-41.
The Razorbacks face one of the MAC's best this week, though Toledo was unable to complete its opener last week against Stony Brook because of bad weather.
However, it's not a Rockets team at full strength - with 1,600-yard rusher Kareem Hunt and defensive end Allen Covington serving the second of two-game suspensions for violating team rules.
Toledo coach Matt Campbell said, though, the team's depth will lessen the impact of their absences against an Arkansas team he said is ''probably one of the elite teams in the country.''
''It's almost as if it's an injury, not having those guys,'' Campbell said.
Some thing to watch as Arkansas tries to win for the fifth time in six games:
ALLEN'S ACCURACY: Following a 14-of-18 passing performance a week ago, Allen has thrown 108 straight passes without an interception. It's the second longest streak of the senior's career, only behind a 116-attempt streak last season.
ELY'S EXPERIENCE: Toledo senior quarterback Phillip Ely missed most of last season with a knee injury, but he's seen action before against the Razorbacks. The former Alabama backup completed 2 of 3 passes for 15 yards in the Crimson Tide's 52-0 win over Arkansas in 2012 in Fayetteville.
DEFENSIVE STARTS: Expect a pair of new defensive starters this week for the Razorbacks, with junior-college defensive end Jeremiah Ledbetter and sophomore cornerback Henre' Toliver likely to open the game against the Rockets. Ledbetter had eight tackles in his Arkansas debut a week ago, while Toliver had an interception and pair of tackles for lost yardage in the win over UTEP.
HUNT'S ABSENCE: Despite Campbell's assertion that missing Hunt won't hamper Toledo, it's hard to ignore the fact the Rockets will be without their preseason Doak Walker award nominee who rushed for 1,631 yards last season. Also, Hunt's backup, Terry Swanson, is hurting following an ankle sprain in last week's opener.
HATCHER CONNECTION: Arkansas senior wide receiver Keon Hatcher had six catches for 106 yards receiving last week, including a pair of touchdowns from Allen. Hatcher's yardage nearly matched his career high of 107 yards in a game, which came last season when the Razorbacks defeated MAC opponent Northern Illinois 52-14.
