Mississippi defensive lineman Issac Gross will miss the rest of the season because of a neck injury.

Coach Hugh Freeze said Tuesday via text message that Gross has been "battling this for a year and a half and it has progressively gotten worse." The school says Gross eventually will have surgery.

The 6-foot-1, 240-pound senior played in Saturday's victory over UT Martin. He made three tackles. He played in 12 games last season, including six starts, and was tied for third on the team with eight tackles for a loss.

The school says Gross hopes to make a full recovery, redshirt this season and return for a fifth year next fall.
