Cameron Maybin returned to Petco Park for the first time in a while, only in the visitors' dugout this time.
Maybin, who was sent to Atlanta in the deal that brought closer Craig Kimbrel to the Padres, reflected on his time in San Diego as the Braves visited for a three-game series that began Monday.
"My energy level is always high, so I expect it will be fun to run around and take it all in," Maybin said. "The [San Diego] fans were great to me and treated me as if I was a hometown guy."
Maybin played four seasons, from 2011 to 2014, in the Padres' outfield, with mixed success at the plate.
While he hit .264/.323/.393 with nine home runs and 40 RBI in his debut season with the Padres, Maybin was tagged as defensive specialist after his offensive numbers waned in subsequent years.
In all, Maybin hit .246/.307/.358 with 19 home runs and 105 RBI in 1,325 at-bats over 393 games with the Friars.
Now, the 28-year-old center fielder has turned into a run-producing machine with the Braves, maintaining a .280/.338/.406 split with 10 home runs and 52 RBI through 103 games.
"Now, he's doing what he is capable of doing," said Braves second baseman Jace Peterson. "It's been a lot of fun to watch."
Flaunting his productive bat in his return to Petco Park on Monday, Maybin went 2 for 4 with a home run.
