The St. Louis Cardinals are rolling with the baseball's best record even with slugger Matt Holliday out of the lineup. Still, it doesn't mean the Cards can absorb more injuries.
The club is holding its breath for the moment as center fielder Randy Grichuk has his right elbow checked out on Monday. He was forced out of Sunday's game against the Marlins with tightness in his throwing elbow. The Cards need to know what the issue is and how cautious they must be with it.
Grichuk was scheduled for an MRI exam on Monday.
"This needs a closer look to make sure this is something he can play through," Cards manager Mike Matheny told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "Can't do that midgame without having all of the information."
The rookie is third on the team with 15 home runs while hitting .289 with a team-best .563 slugging percentage. Those numbers have him in the thick of the NL Rookie of the Year chase.
