The San Francisco Giants want to get Tim Hudson some work before he returns to the hill for them.

The San Jose Mercury News reports that Hudson, who is on the disabled list retroactive to July 27 with a right shoulder strain, is tentatively scheduled to start a rehab assignment for the Giants' Triple-A affiliate in Sacramento, Calif., on Friday.

Hudson was initially placed on the disabled list retroactive to June 27 for a shoulder strain after he gave up 10 hits and five earned runs over 6 2/3 innings to the Colorado Rockies on June 26.

He returned to the mound for two starts in late July before his shoulder injury flared up again after a July 26 start at AT&T Park against the Oakland A's.

Hudson is 6-8 on the season with a 4.80 ERA and 53 strikeouts in 101 1/3 innings pitched.
