Monaco fared much better in their first game of the season, triumphing 2-1 at 10-man Nice.
Former Monaco forward Valere Germain had put the hosts ahead after seven minutes, but Olivier Boscagli's dismissal for a second booking before the break gave the visitors hope and Leonardo Jardim's renmen, who finished third last term, turned things around through goals from substitute Bernardo Silva (51) and Layvin Kurzawa (62).
Elsewhere, top-flight new boys Angers secured their first ever league win in Montpellier with a surprise 2-0 victory at the Stade Mosson. Abdoul Camara fired home the opener on three minutes and Gilles Sunu wrapped up the points late on with a debut goal to cap a memorable evening for Stephane Moulin's side.
Marseille made a disappointing start to what could be a difficult Ligue 1 campaign with an uninspiring 1-0 home defeat to Caen.

Jeremy Sorbon's 89th-minute own goal was enough to decide a drab encounter as Les Canaris secured a fortunate three points. Brazilian Adryan had an impressive debut for the hosts and was at the centre of most of their good work, but the former Leeds forward failed to breach a resolute Guingamp defense.
But, with less than a minute to play, Johan Audel's dangerous-looking cross was inadvertently turned beyond his own goalkeeper by Sorbon to hand all three points to Michel Der Zakarian's men.
