Report: Corey Brewer randomly drug tested after 51-point game in 2014

Corey Brewer is a streaky shooter, which is why his 15-point fourth-quarter outburst against the Los Angeles Clippers in Game 6 of the 2015 Western Conference semifinals, in which his Houston Rockets turned a 19-point second-half deficit into a 12-point victory, was so memorable.

But despite the magnitude of such a clutch performance for a career 10.2-point-per-game scorer and 29-percent 3-point shooter, that wasn't Brewer's best game, at least not according to him.

No, that would be Brewer's 51-point explosion on April 11, 2014, as a then-member of the Minnesota Timberwolves against ... wait for it ... the Rockets.

Brewer joined the likes of Tracy Murray and Tony Delk in the "Most Unlikely 50-Point Scorers" club, but what "randomly" transpired after the game is probably more interesting.

Here's what Brewer had to say in a Q&A with CBS Sports' James Herbert:

"How often do people bring up your 51-point game?

Brewer: People bring it up pretty often. I just remember it was amazing. I felt like everything I threw up was going in. It was fun. And especially it was fun to do it in Minnesota where we had a rough year, to get the crowd something to cheer about.

There was a one-hour delay before you talked to media after that, right?

Brewer: I had a random drug test from the NBA. So I couldn't do the interview until I got done with my drug test. I didn't have to go to the bathroom. So it took a while. It was weird, it was just funny at the same time. I was like 'Wow, I played the best game of my life, now I gotta go to the bathroom to take this drug test.'"

What a bummer.

After Brewer, a fourth option offensively at best, randomly breaks out for 51 points, he had to wait to bask in his 15 minutes of fame with the media, which surely dampened his mood and celebration.

Perhaps he learned his lesson, as since then Brewer's game high has been 26 points.

It was purely coincidental that the NBA decided to drug test him then, of course, but nonetheless fun to think about if you love conspiracies.
