Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk enjoyed his day with the Stanley Cup on Thursday while brother James honored tradition and did not touch it.
The younger van Riemsdyk received the 'Key to the City' in his hometown of Middletown, N.J., in addition to taking pictures at Brick Stars Challenger Hockey, a program for developmentally challenged kids that his family supports.
"It's all good," the undrafted van Riemsdyk told NHL.com. "I've been smiling all summer."
His older brother also wore a smile on Thursday, but the Toronto Maple Leafs forward kept a safe distance from the Stanley Cup. NHL tradition notes that an active player does not touch the Stanley Cup until his team has rightfully captured it.
Trevor van Riemsdyk, 24, recorded one assist in 18 games with the Blackhawks, who bested the Tampa Bay Lightning in six games to win their third Stanley Cup championship in six seasons.
