On Thursday the headlines blared that the Pittsburgh Pirates "want to get rid" of Pedro Alvarez, that they're practically willing to give him away to the first taker.

Since then, the first baseman has knocked in four runs in consecutive victories over the Washington Nationals, and he's collected two hits, including Friday's bomb that cleared the right-field bleachers and made a crash landing in the Allegheny River.

The homer came off Nationals ace Max Scherzer, who no-hit the Pirates the last time he faced them.

Alvarez might indeed be gone by the trade deadline, but it certainly appears he's not giving up on himself, or his team, which is battling to hold onto a wildcard spot.

Check out his two-run shot into the river that broke a scoreless tie in the second inning.
