The Los Angeles Dodgers' latest road trip included an unexpected stop in their hometown late Sunday.
The chartered plane carrying the team from San Diego to Dallas was forced to make an emergency landing at Los Angeles International Airport about an hour after takeoff due to an unspecified mechanical issue.
United spokeswoman Mary Ryan told the Los Angeles Times the plane, identified as Flight 2207, landed safely at LAX at 8:16 p.m. local time. Ryan told the paper that 176 passengers and crew were on board.
The Dodgers plane had departed later than expected because their Sunday game against the San Diego Padres went 12 innings. The Dodgers eventually won, 4-2.
Some of the players documented their experience on social media, including starting pitcher Brett Anderson.
Slugger Adrian Gonzalez also chimed in.
Catcher A.J. Ellis wasn't above a little sarcasm.
The team eventually was transferred to another flight, which left just over two hours after the first plane had landed. The Dodgers open a two-game series against the Texas Rangers Monday night.
