Chicago, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - The Chicago Blackhawks recalled rookie defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk Friday from Rockford of the American Hockey League.

Van Riemsdyk, 23, was on Chicago's opening-night roster, tallying one assist and averaging 13:32 of ice time in 18 games before suffering a broken patella in his left knee on Nov. 18 while blocking a shot.

The New Jersey native and younger brother of Maple Leafs forward James van Riemsdyk was sent down to Rockford upon his return, but sustained a right wrist injury that required surgery on April 7.

The Blackhawks trail the Anaheim Ducks 2-1 in the Western Conference finals. Game 4 is slated for Saturday at United Center.
