(SportsNetwork.com) - The New York Giants will be without starting left tackle Will Beatty for much of the upcoming 2015 season after he suffered a torn pectoral muscle while lifting weights.
Beatty was slated to undergo surgery Wednesday to repair the injury, a team spokesman confirmed. Normal recovery time for a torn pectoral ranges from 5- to-6 months, putting the six-year veteran's expected return during the second half of the 2015 campaign.
Beatty has not missed a game for the Giants in any of the previous three seasons, during which the 2009 second-round pick has made 47 starts at left tackle. The Giants re-signed the 30-year-old to a five-year, $37.5 million contract in February of 2013.
Rookie Ereck Flowers and Justin Pugh are the most likely candidates to take over Beatty's spot during his absence. Pugh has served as New York's regular right tackle the past two seasons, while the Giants selected Flowers with the ninth overall choice in last month's NFL Draft.
