PSG set to clinch Ligue 1 title

Montpellier, France (SportsNetwork.com) - Paris Saint-Germain will aim to clinch its third consecutive Ligue 1 title on Saturday with at least a draw against Motpellier at the Stade de la Mosson.

After being eliminated in the quarterfinals of the Champions League, PSG has ripped off four straight wins in league play by a combined score of 17-2 to bring with club within one point of winning another league title.

Last time out, Edinson Cavani bagged a hat trick as the capital club rolled to a 6-0 rout of Guingamp at the Parc des Princes.

The Uruguayan opened the scoring after two minutes and Zlatan Ibrahimovic netted a second goal in the 18th minute. Cavani fired home his second of the day in the 52nd minute, Maxwell got into the scoring mood in the 56th and Cavani completed his treble in the 70th minute before Ibrahimovic capped the rout with a penalty kick in stoppage time.

"We know what we have to do on Saturday, like for every match. At Paris Saint- Germain, there is an obligation to win every match, home and away," said PSG manager Laurent Blanc. "We are heading to Montpellier to claim all three points. We know their players and their coach very well. We aren't lacking respect for Montpellier, but we travel there with ambition, in the knowledge that we can fulfil our objectives from the start of the season. It's a decisive match. It's perhaps the most important match we've played this season."

"This Montpellier side has plenty of quality. They have had a great season and can still qualify for the Europa League. But we are only focusing on ourselves. We know it won't be easy, but we have the necessary quality to the result we need."

Also on the schedule in the penultimate week of the Ligue 1 season, Bastia hosts Caen at the Stade Armand-Cesari, Evian battles Saint-Etienne at the Parc des Sports, and Guingamp welcomes Toulouse to the Stade du Roudourou.

Fourth-place Marseille will try to keep its Champions League hopes alive with a win over Lille, while Monaco hopes to keep its distance from fourth place with a victory against Metz.

Lyon hosts Bordeaux at the Stade de Gerland, Nantes welcomes Lorient to the Stade de la Beaujoire, Nice battles Lens at the Stade Municipal du Ray, while Reims hosts Rennes at the Stade Auguste Delaune II.
