Southampton, England (SportsNetwork.com) - Southampton forward Jay Rodriguez signed a contract extension with the south coast club on Tuesday which will keep him at St. Mary's Stadium until 2019.

Rodriguez, 25, has been out of action since April 2014 due to a torn ACL, but has returned to full training in hopes of helping the Saints secure a top- eight finish in the Premier League.

Signed from Burnley in 2012, Rodriguez has netted 21 goals for the Saints and made his England national team debut in 2013 against Chile.

"It's been a tough year," he told the club's website. "It's now about looking forward to the future. I'm delighted. It's a great club and we've done amazingly this year."

"This is very good news for the club because there was some speculation about Jay and interest from other big clubs," said Southampton manager Ronald Koeman. "It is a compliment to the club that we have an agreement."
