New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - New York Yankees starting pitcher Michael Pineda was named the American League Player of the Week on Monday.

Pineda went 2-0 with a 0.60 ERA in two outings last week and led the majors with 22 strikeouts. The right-hander allowed only one run in 15 innings of work.

Seattle ace Felix Hernandez, Minnesota outfielder Torii Hunter and Kansas City first baseman Eric Hosmer were also considered for the award.
