(SportsNetwork.com) - The Chicago White Sox have seen their two best starters battered in their last two games. Jose Quintana hopes for better results on Friday when the White Sox resume their four-game series with the Minnesota Twins.
After Jeff Samardzija gave up seven earned runs in five innings before an empty Camden Yards on Wednesday, Chris Sale was knocked around in Thursday's opener to the tune of nine runs in just three innings in Minnesota's 12-2 shellacking of the White Sox.
Brian Dozier homered and drove in four runs, while Joe Mauer added three hits and a pair of RBI for the Twins, who have won four of their last six.
Trevor May picked up the win (2-1), as he allowed a pair of runs and 10 hits in 5 2/3 innings.
Melky Cabrera had two hits with an RBI in the loss.
It was Sale's shortest outing since also going three innings on May 27 of last season.
"Hitting is contagious. You give a team like that some energy and they are going to roll with it," Sale said. "That's what they did. They took advantage when they could and they got me."
Now, the White Sox turn to the lefty Quintana, who is 1-1 with a 6.55 ERA.
Quintana did not get a decision his last time out against Kansas City, but pitched well, giving up just two runs and seven hits in seven innings of his team's 3-2 win.
It was his Major League high 41st no-decision since 2012.
Quintana has faced the Twins 10 times and is 3-2 against them with a 4.40 ERA
Minnesota will counter with righty Kyle Gibson, who is also coming off a solid outing that resulted in nothing. Gibson got a no-decision in Seattle on Sunday, as he surrendered two runs and five hits in seven innings of the Twins' 4-2 win.
Gibson, who is 1-0 in two starts versus the White Sox, is 1-2 on the year with a 4.84 ERA.
Chicago took two of three from the Twins earlier in the year.
