St. Petersburg, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - The Tampa Bay Rays placed left-handed reliever C.J. Riefenhauser on the 15-day disabled list with shoulder inflammation and recalled outfielder Mikie Mahtook to take his place on the 25-man roster.

The 25-year-old Riefenhauser made just two appearances for Tampa Bay after starting the season in Triple-A Durham. He allowed three runs in 1 1/3 innings.

Riefenhauser was placed on the DL a day after it was announced another lefty reliever, Jeff Beliveau, would be out for the season with shoulder surgery. Star lefty Jake McGee has missed the entire season so far after undergoing offseason elbow surgery.

Riefenhauser is the 12th Ray to go on the disabled list this season, although the team is expecting starter Drew Smyly back to make his 2015 debut on Friday.

Mahtook, 25, made his major league debut with Tampa Bay earlier this month and is 1-for-4 with a home run.
