Barcelona, Spain (SportsNetwork.com) - Neymar hit for a pair of first-half goals on Tuesday as Barcelona rolled into the semifinals of the Champions League with a 2-0 second leg and 5-1 aggregate victory over Paris Saint- Germain at the Camp Nou.
After claiming a comfortable 3-1 win over the French Champions in the opening leg, the Catalans returned home knowing that PSG would have to put on an otherworldly performance in order to knock off Luis Enrique's side.
PSG striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic returned to the field for Tuesday's encounter after serving a four-match ban for verbally lashing out at an official, but not even the hulking Swedish forward could help PSG on this night.
It took Barcelona just 14 minutes to find the first goal of the night when Andres Iniesta made an outstanding run from his side of the field, weaving his way past several PSG defenders before threading a perfect through ball into the path of Neymar. The Brazilian attacker rounded PSG goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu and slotted home.
It was 2-0 on the night and 5-1 on aggregate in the 34th minute. This time, Dani Alves swung a tantalizing cross into the box from the right side of the field. Neymar did well to slide in between two PSG defenders and nod home into the bottom right corner, leaving Sirigu with little chance for a save.
PSG struggled to create many quality scoring chances throughout the night, but the best opportunity came on the break in the 70th minute when Ibrahimovic came charging down the field with Javier Pastore to his left.
Ibrahimovic elected to have a go himself from the top of the box, but Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen was in perfect position to parry it to safety.
The visitors had another chance to get one back in the 86th minute when Lucas let one go from the top of the penalty area, but it sailed well over the crossbar.
The fourth official's board showed three minutes of added time, but PSG was resigned to their defeat, having been knocked out at the quarterfinal stage for the third consecutive year. Barcelona will play in its 11th semifinal.
While PSG was unable to overcome its first-leg deficit, the exact opposite was the case in Tuesday's other match as Bayern Munich overturned a 3-1 first-leg deficit in spectacular fashion, claiming a 6-1 second leg and 7-4 aggregate victory over Portuguese side FC Porto at the Allianz Arena.
Defensive miscues plagued Bayern in the first leg, but there were no such lapses this time around as Thiago Alcantara opened the scoring in the 14th minute, followed by goals from Jerome Boateng and Robert Lewandowski in the 22nd and 27th minutes to give the hosts a 4-3 aggregate lead.
German World Cup winner Thomas Mueller netted in the 36th minute and Lewandowski added his second of the day five minutes before the break for a 5-0 lead at halftime.
Jackson Martinez pulled one back in the 74th minute for Porto to make it 5-1 and 6-4 on aggregate, but Bayern capped the rout in style with two minutes to play when Xabi Alonso fired home an exquisite free kick from 25 yards out.
It was the first time Bayern Munich had overturned a two-goal deficit in European competition since 1988-89 and the Bavarians will make their ninth semifinal appearance.
