Boston, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Boston Bruins revealed on Tuesday that defenseman Zdeno Chara suffered a non-displaced fracture of the fibula in his left leg.
In a release, the club said the injury will not require surgery and recovery time is approximately four weeks. The Globe cited additional reports indicating that will put him out of participating in the upcoming World Championships.
The hulking native of Slovakia and B's captain missed almost two months after suffering a torn posterior cruciate ligament in his left knee on Oct. 23 after delivering a hit to Islanders captain John Tavares.
That setback, which also did not require surgery, will force Chara to wear a brace for the remainder of his career. According to Chara himself shortly after the regular season ended, the affected PCL is just 10 percent attached and caused discomfort at times when he returned to action.
Chara finished the season, his ninth in Boston, with eight goals and 12 assists in 63 appearances. His 20 points marked the lowest total in a full campaign since he recorded just nine in 82 games for the Islanders in 2000-01.
