Tempe, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - The Arizona Cardinals announced Monday that safety Adrian Wilson has signed a contract and is officially retiring from the NFL.

Wilson announced his retirement during a press conference at the Cardinals' Tempe facility, alongside team president Michael Bidwill and general manager Steve Keim. Several of Wilson's former teammates were in attendance, including current Cardinals Patrick Peterson, Justin Bethel and Rashad Johnson.

The 35-year-old Wilson joined the Cardinals in 2001 as a third-round draft pick. A five-time Pro Bowl selection (2006, 2008-11) and three time All-Pro selection (2006, 2008-09), Wilson totaled 893 tackles, 27 interceptions and 25 1/2 sacks in 181 games (162 starts) over 12 seasons with Arizona.

After being released by the Cardinals following the 2012 season, he signed with the Patriots in 2013 but landed on IR. In 2014, he was cut during camp by the Bears.

A five-time team captain (2007, 2009-12), Wilson is one of just six players in NFL history (Ronde Barber, Brian Dawkins, Rodney Harrison, Ray Lewis, William Thomas) with at least 25 sacks and 25 interceptions.
