Guanajuato, Mexico (SportsNetwork.com) - Wes Roach closed with a 4-under 68 on Sunday and cruised to a 4-stroke win at the El Bosque Mexico Championship.
Roach finished his first Web.com Tour win at 17-under-par 271.
"It was a pretty great feeling when I tapped in on the last hole. My first win as a professional and my first on the Web.com Tour is pretty special," Roach said. "I feel great. Inside, I was going crazy all day, but I kept telling myself to believe and trust in what I was doing. This means so much and hopefully it helps me get back to the PGA Tour next year."
Kevin Tway carded a 1-under 71 and shared second place with Patton Kizzire (67) at minus-13.
Stephen Jaeger and Smylie Kaufman both shot 3-under 69 in the final round at El Bosque Country Club. They tied for fourth at 12-under-par 276. Luke List (66) and Sung Kang (69) were one stroke further back at minus-11.
Roach opened with a birdie at the first. He parred three in a row, then traded a birdie at the fifth for a bogey on No. 6. He atoned for that mistake with a birdie on the par-5 eighth, which pushed him two clear of Jaeger and Tway.
Around the turn, Roach pulled away from the field. He 2-putted for birdie on the par-5 10th and followed with birdies at 11 and 12 to move to 18-under.
Roach led by four, but tripped to a bogey at the 13th. His advantage dipped to three, but it never got closer than that. Roach parred the final five holes to clinch the win.
"The last time I played here (2013) and was in contention on the back nine, but couldn't make a single birdie on the back," said Roach. "I wound up tied for second. I knew I was going to have to make a few this time around."
Tway stumbled out of the gate with bogeys at one and three. He erased those mistakes with birdies at four and five. He faltered to another bogey on No. 7, but holed an eagle effort at the eighth to jump within one of the lead.
However, Tway only managed one birdie on the back nine. He also had a bogey at the 15th to go with seven pars, which left him four behind.
Kizzire had a bogey-free round with five birdies to rally for a share of second place.
Jaeger had five birdies through 12 holes, but was four back at that point. He bogeyed the 13th, then birdied the 14th. Jaeger fell into a share of fourth after bogeys at 15 and 16.
NOTES: Roach, who earned $126,000 for the win, was the first 54-hole leader to win on the Web.com Tour this year ... Wil Wilcox made a hole-in-one on the par-3 12th ... After a week off, the Web.com Tour returns to action with the United Leasing Championship, where Greg Owen won by one stroke last year.
