Mathews defeats Luis for WBA lightweight title

Liverpool, England (SportsNetwork.com) - Derry Mathews won a 12-round unanimous decision over Tony Luis on Saturday for the vacant WBA interim lightweight title.

Mathews (38-9-2) took two cards of 114-112 and one of 115-112 over Luis (19-3), who was a late substitute for Ismael Barroso.
