Frankfurt, Germany (SportsNetwork.com) - Eintracht's ambitions of reaching the Europa League took a huge hit with the news that leading scorer Alex Meier will miss the remainder of the campaign after undergoing knee surgery on Tuesday.

Meier leads the Bundesliga with 19 goals this season, but he has been bothered a kneecap injury that forced him to miss his side's 3-0 defeat at Bayern Munich over the weekend.

Now the 32-year-old will require surgery to repair the problem, meaning he will miss the final six games of the league season.

The injury comes at a tough time for Eintracht, which sits only four points out of a Europa League qualifying spot. And the club will now attempt to snap its three-game winless skid on Friday against third-place Monchengladbach without the services of its biggest goal threat.
