CASABLANCA, Morocco – Daniel Gimeno-Traver of Spain reached his first ATP tour final with a 6-7 (3), 6-4, 6-4 win over third-seeded Jiri Vesely on Saturday, setting up a Grand Prix Hassan II final against Martin Klizan.
The 29-year-old Gimeno-Traver served well and did not face a single break point to overcome his Czech opponent in a tight match that lasted nearly 2 1/2 hours.
"It was a difficult match," said Gimeno-Traver, who hit six aces and converted two of his five break points. "Maybe I was a bit too much on defense during the first set, but then I started to play more aggressively, and I felt well during all my service games."
Klizan, who will be bidding for his third title after winning in St. Petersburg in 2012 and Munich last season, rallied past Damir Dzumhur 4-6, 6-4, 6-0 after saving five of seven break points.
"Damir played very well today," Klizan said. "It was a tough match. I think that I was mentally stronger in the third set, and I'm extremely happy to be in the final."
