London, England (SportsNetwork.com) - Tennis player Wayne Odesnik was given a 15-year ban for a second doping violation and then announced his retirement.

He tested positive for several banned substances, including steroids, in out- of-competition urine tests in December and January.

The 15-year penalty meant Odesnik would not be eligible to return until January, 2030.

"In December 2014, I unknowingly ingested a contaminated over-the-counter supplement," said Odesnik. "Upon learning of my positive test results I was immediately heartbroken as words could not describe my shock and disappointment. Being the most tested American tennis player on the tour, I would never knowingly have taken any chance of consuming a banned substance. The contaminated product is currently with an independent accredited testing laboratory in California for further testing at my own expense, and I am currently considering my legal options."

The 267th-ranked American received a two-year ban back in 2010 after being found guilty for possession of human growth hormone.

He was stopped by Australian customs officials and found to have eight vials, each containing the performance-enhancing substance HGH, in his luggage.

The former world No. 77 had always denied taking HGH and his two-year ban was cut to 12 months after he gave "substantial assistance" to the International Tennis Federation (ITF).

The 29-year-old South African-born Odesnik's latest ban was the result of tests by the ITF anti-doping program and the U.S. anti-doping body, USADA, during December and January.

The journeyman Odesnik reached an ATP final in Houston in 2009.
