Houston, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - The Houston Texans signed quarterback Brian Hoyer on Wednesday.

The two-year deal is reportedly worth $10.5 million.

Hoyer will compete with Ryan Mallett for the Texans' starting quarterback position in 2015.

"For me, nothing has ever been handed to me. I'm not asking for it to start now," said Hoyer. "I've dealt with a lot of competition throughout my entire career, so it's not something that I shy away from. Obviously, I chose to come here knowing that Ryan is here. It will make both of us better."

The 29-year-old Hoyer was the starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns for most of last season, appearing in 14 games and completing 55.3 percent of his passes for 3,326 yards with 12 touchdowns and 13 picks.

Signed as an undrafted free agent out of Michigan State by the New England Patriots in 2009, Hoyer spent three seasons with the Patriots (2009-11), split time in 2012 between Pittsburgh and Arizona, before spending the past two seasons with Cleveland (2013-14). Hoyer has played in 32 career games, completing 56.5 percent of his passes for 4,557 yards with 19 touchdowns and 19 interceptions.
