Frankfurt, Germany (SportsNetwork.com) - France clinched a spot in the Davis Cup quarterfinals Saturday when the doubles team of Julien Benneteau and Nicolas Mahut claimed a straight-set win over Germany's Benjamin Becker and Andre Begemann.
Benneteau and Mahut rolled to a 6-4, 6-3, 6-2 triumph to give the visiting French an insurmountable 3-0 lead in the best-of-five tie.
France had built a 2-0 cushion on Friday thanks to singles victories from Gilles Simon and Gael Monfils.
The nine-time Davis Cup champs will next play the winner between Great Britain and the United States in July's quarterfinals. France, though, hasn't won the crown since 2001 and last year came up just short with a loss to Switzerland in the final.
Germany, which won the last of its three Davis Cup titles in 1993, was eliminated by France for a second straight year. The French roared back from an 0-2 deficit in last year's quarterfinals to pull off the stunning victory.
This year, it was less dramatic.
The Germans fell to 2-9 all-time against their European neighbors and haven't beaten France in the competition since 1938.
