Frisco, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - The Detroit Red Wings picked up veteran forward insurance for their playoff run on Sunday, acquiring Erik Cole from the Dallas Stars.

The Stars will receive defensive prospect Mattias Backman, forward prospect Mattias Janmark as well as a second-round pick in 2015.

Detroit also receives a conditional third-round pick in the upcoming draft which reverts back to Dallas if the Wings advance as far as the Eastern Conference Finals.

Cole, 36, totaled 18 goals and 15 assists over 57 games for the Stars this season. A 2006 Stanley Cup winner with Carolina, the New York-born winger and left-handed shot has compiled 262 goals and 264 assists over 881 appearances for four clubs.
