New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Ottawa Senators defenseman Jared Cowen has been suspended for three games for interference against Florida Panthers forward Jussi Jokinen, the NHL's Department of Player Safety announced Monday.

The incident occurred early in the second period on Saturday night after Jokinen carried the puck over the Ottawa blue line and made a backhand pass to a teammate. Cowen came across and delivered a late hit to Jokinen's head with his right shoulder for which he received a minor penalty for interference.

Cowen, who is considered a repeat offender under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, is eligible to return when the Senators play at Minnesota on March 3. He will forfeit just over $313,000 by missing the games.
