Quito, Ecuador (SportsNetwork.com) - Spanish veteran Albert Montanes upset second-seeded Santiago Giraldo in Wednesday's second-round play at the Ecuador Open.

The 34-year-old former top-25 performer and current world No. 102 Montanes straight-setted his 31st-ranked Colombian counterpart Giraldo in 7-6 (7-1), 7-5 fashion on Day 3 at this clay court event.

Giraldo had won four of their previous five meetings.

Meanwhile, fourth-seeded Martin Klizan of Slovakia took care of Daniel Gimeno- Traver in three sets 6-3, 5-7, 7-5.

Sixth-seeded Brazilian Thomaz Bellucci fought past Argentina's Horacio Zeballos 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (8-6), and eighth-seeded Victor Estrella Burgos of the Dominican Republic defeated Argentine qualifier Renzo Olivo 7-6 (7-5), 6-4.

This week's champion in Quito will claim $80,000.
