Madrid, Spain (SportsNetwork.com) - Cristiano Ronaldo has been handed a two- match suspension after being sent off during Real Madrid's 2-1 win against Cordoba over the weekend.

Ronaldo received his marching orders in the second half with the match tied at 1-1 after he was spotted kicking Cordoba defender Edimar away from the ball.

The Portugal international then became involved in a scuffle with a pair of Cordoba players after being shown the red card, and his suspension will begin this weekend with Madrid's home contest against Real Sociedad.

Ronaldo will also miss his team's match with Sevilla next Wednesday, but he will be able to take part in the crucial game against rivals Atletico Madrid on Feb. 7.

Real enters this weekend one point clear of second-place Barcelona with a game in hand, while Ronaldo leads La Liga with 28 goals this term.
