Melbourne, Australia (SportsNetwork.com) - The top-seeded two-time defending champion duo of Italians Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci came up a third-round loser Monday at the Australian Open.

A 16th-seeded German tandem of Julia Goerges and Anna-Lena Groenefeld doused Errani and Vinci 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 at Melbourne Park.

The 27-year-old Errani and 31-year-old Vinci had won their last 14 matches in Melbourne, including back-to-back titles here in 2013 and last year. The gritty Italians are also the reigning Wimbledon women's doubles champions and own five major titles overall.
