Melbourne, Australia (SportsNetwork.com) - No. 2 Roger Federer rallied after dropping the first set on Wednesday and advanced to the third round at the Australian Open.
The four-time Aussie Open winner fell behind against Italian Simone Bolelli but responded in dominant fashion and wound up moving on with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 victory.
Sixth-seeded Andy Murray also advanced after making quick work of Marinko Matosevic, beating the Aussie 6-1, 6-3, 6-2. No. 7 Thomas Berdych defeated Jurgen Melzer 7-6 (7-0), 6-2, 6-2 and 10th-seeded Grigor Dimitrov eliminated Lukas Lacko, 6-3, 7-6 (12-10), 6-3, 6-3.
Also alive after the second round are No. 14 Kevin Anderson and 24th-seeded Richard Gasquet.
A number of ranked players fell on Wednesday, including 20th-seeded David Goffin, who was upset 6-1, 6-4, 4-6, 6-0 by Marcos Baghdatis. No. 26 Leonard Mayer lost to Viktor Troicki 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, 6-0 and Martin Klizan, the tournament's 32nd-seeded player, retired in the fourth set against Joao Sousa.
Former champion and third-seeded Rafael Nadal will also take the court on Wednesday.
